Japanese Beech Ferns -
Marsh Ferns |
|
Thelypteris decursive–pinnata, the
Japanese Beech Fern,
is an attractive Asian species with
light chartreuse green fronds, very upright in habit. This is a spreader,
but a slow and steady one, unlike some near relatives that can be
borderline invasives. It naturalizes beautifully in open woods. |
|
Thelypteris kunthii
is a native fern species that actually loves the heat and humidity of the
South. The fronds are attractive and airy. This is a fairly aggressive
spreader and especially in moist areas will provide quick cover -
definitely not to be turned loose on a small or formal garden. |

Speaking of borderline invasives,
Thelypteris palustris,
the Marsh Fern, is a very vigorous spreading mid-sized fern with blue
green fronds. As the name implies it will tolerate wetness and can even be
grown in full sun with sufficient moisture. Not appropriate for small
gardens but in the right spot with room to run it can be attractive. |

Nursery Propagated
Ferns - We do not sell ferns, or any other plants for that matter,
that have been collected in the wild. All of our ferns have been
nursery propagated. This not only protects wild populations, but
potted, nursery propagated ferns are much easier to establish in the
garden than plants dug in the wild and shipped bareroot. |
