Great
plants for shady locations. Hostas range in size from tiny dwarfs with
leaves only an inch or so long to huge varieties forming clumps up to 6'
wide. The nearly limitless variety of leaf shapes, sizes, patterns and
colors make them one of the most versatile plants available for the
shade. They are useful as ground covers, edging plants, or specimens,
in the border, in masses, or mixed with other shade loving plants such
as ferns, Astilbes, Polygonatums, Liriopes, and many others for
naturalized shade gardens. We carry a nice variety of Hostas, but if you
are really serious about them you must visit our sister website,
Bridgewood
Gardens. They specialize in
Hostas and have an amazing selection. Hosta descriptions and images

Medium - This section includes some of the most useful
landscape Hostas and some of the most beautiful. Plant size generally
ranges from about 20" to 36" across, making them suitable as specimens
or for massing to cover large areas. Dwarf and Small Hostas are on the
Hosta Page and Large sizes are on the
Hosta3 Page. |

801900 Hosta 'Antioch’
Add

Quart Pots
- $7.95 ea.
We like ‘Antioch’ because it has an informal look to it, large pointed
leaves that arch nearly to the ground, with wide, irregular margins of
creamy white. Each leaf is different, and a mature clump is really
beautiful. It has won multiple awards from the Hosta Society, and going
back through our copies of the Journal, we could not find a year when it
wasn’t ranked highly on the popularity poll, right up there with all the
expensive new introductions.

817300 Hosta
fortunei 'Aureomarginata’
Add
to Cart
Quart Pots
- $5.95 ea.
This is a rather common plant, but one of my favorites. It has the
classic neat, mounded form, with dark green leaves edged in gold. It is
a vigorous grower that multiplies quickly, making it ideal for massing.
Lavender flowers. |

818100 Hosta 'Francee’
Add
to Cart
Quart Pots
- $6.95 ea.
To read a short catalog description, you might think that ‘Antioch’ and
‘Francee’ were pretty much the same - green fortunei types with white
variegation. But they are totally different (well, as totally as two
similar plants can be). ‘Francee’ is more upright and symmetrical, the
leaves darker green with a neat, narrow white edge, a more formal and
elegant plant. Like ‘Antioch’ it always rates highly on the popularity
poll. Go to the

820300 Hosta 'Gold
Standard’ Add
to Cart
Quart Pots
- $6.95 ea.
‘Gold Standard’ starts the season in a deceptively plain fashion,
emerging in spring with medium green leaves. But it soon begins to
develop a beautiful mound of brightly variegated foliage as all but the
margins of the leaf turn to gold. ‘Gold Standard’ is a fortunei type,
vigorous and fast to multiply. It forms a medium size mound.

821900 Hosta 'Grand
Tiara’
Add
to Cart
Quart Pots
- $9.95 ea.
A sport from ‘Golden Tiara’, the leaf is a bit larger and has more
substance. The gold margin is much wider, sometimes so wide that it
gives the effect of a golden yellow leaf with a center splash of green.
The width of the margin varies with exposure and the season.

823700 Hosta 'Halcyon’

Quart Pots
- $9.95 ea.
We don’t think we’ve ever seen a Hosta with a more beautiful blue color
than this one, a chalky, powdery blue in spring, turning to a deep blue
in the summer, and holding up well in the fall after most Hostas have
turned to mush. The leaves are heart-shaped and heavily ribbed. They
arch and overlap, forming a neat, symmetrical mound topped by white
flowers This is definitely one of our favorite Hostas.

827500 Hosta 'June’ Add
to Cart
Quart Pots
- $14.95 ea.
This is the gold centered form of ‘Halcyon’. The leaves are a rich,
powdery gold, with a narrow blue edge. The color is best in fairly
bright light, tending to yellow-green in deep shade. Flowers are pale
lavender. |

837600 Hosta 'Night
before Christmas’ Add
to Cart
Quart Pots
- $9.95 ea.
This is a sport of ‘White Christmas’ with long, deep green leaves with a
white streak down the center. Much more vigorous than ‘White Christmas’
forming a medium to large mound with lavender flowers. The center fades
to light green in mid summer.

839900 Hosta 'Patriot’
Add
to Cart
Quart Pots
- $12.95 ea.
Introduced in 1992, this is a sport of ‘Francee’, one of our favorite
white-margined hostas. Instead of ‘Francee’s’ clean, narrow white edge,
‘Patriot’ has a dramatic 1” wide, clear white margin, with an occasional
bit of white streaking in the middle. One of the most popular new
introductions of recent years. Lavender flowers. |

860000 Hosta 'Wide
Brim’

Quart Pots

Low and wide, with great color and texture, ‘Wide Brim’ is bound to be a
standout in any planting. Leaves are deep green, heavily puckered, with
very wide, irregular yellow to cream margins. Increases rapidly. Because
it doesn’t get very tall, it goes well in front of the larger blues.
Pale lavender flowers.
