Spring Perennial Sale- Page 2

Sale prices on some of most popular perennials - go to Sale Page 1

Simply one of the best groundcovers for shady areas, and when established will tolerate dry soils and even compete with tree roots. Steadily spreading, but usually not as quickly as impatient gardeners would prefer, the heart-shaped foliage is attractive, and colorful in season. The spring flowers are delicate, on wiry stems, like sprays of tiny columbines with especially long spurs. Epimedium x youngianum ‘Niveum’ has small white flowers.

Filipendula purpurea ‘Alba’ is a little smaller in all parts than Filipendula rubra with a strong upright habit and dark green leaves. The plume flowerheads are composed of tiny white flowers with pink stamens.

Filipendula ulmaria ‘Aurea’ is similar in form to its larger cousins but with noticeably smaller, creamy white flowerheads. Its best feature is its solid bright yellow-green mounds of foliage

Gentians have a reputation for being difficult, but there are a few species that are relatively easy in rich, well drained soils that don’t dry out. Gentiana dahurica is probably the easiest and we’ve had success even in less than ideal conditions. It has dark blue, funnel shaped flowers in clusters above a central rosette of dark green, strap-like leaves.
